Rigging a Quadruped in Maya with Jason Baskin
Software used: Maya | Project Files: Included | Intermediate | Jul 23, 2014 | 920 MB

Learn how to rig a four-legged creature (aka a quadruped) in Maya using a fun example: man's best friend. Jason Baskin shows how to rig an entire dog mesh from start to finish in this project-based course. First, you'll learn how to create a basic skeleton, positioning joints to deform the mesh at specific locations and adding controls for the head, neck, and ears. You'll then rig the hind legs, adding subfoot pivots that allow the dog's legs to connect to the ground when walking and running. Jason also covers more advanced techniques, such as creating a "stretchy" back and head for more energetic animation and controlling the dog's tags with dynamics. Finally, you'll learn how to bind the mesh to the skeleton, and test the rig by putting it through a simple animation.
VFX Techniques: Creating a CG Flag with Nuke X and CINEMA 4D with Craig Whitaker
Software used: CINEMA 4D, Nuke | Project Files: Included | Intermediate | Jul 25, 2014 | 1.45 GB

Visual effects (VFX) don't necessarily need to involve explosions, magic, or giant robots. In fact, VFX can be as simple as a flag unfurling. CINEMA 4D and Nuke are a great combination for creating this type of shot. CINEMA 4D has fantastic rigid body and cloth systems, while Nuke, the industry's leading compositing tool, makes tracking and compositing a breeze. In this course, Craig Whitaker will guide you through the entire post-production process for creating a computer-generated flag-from creating a mock-up from reference material and tracking the camera movement to constructing the flag using CINEMA 4D's cloth simulation tools and compositing it back into the scene with Nuke. Each step of the process is rich with lessons applicable to similar situations CG and compositing artists will face in the real world.
The Foundry - Rendering in MODO: Animations By Richard Yot
Software used: MODO | Project Files: Included | 2.65 GB

Rendering in MODO: Animations is the third in a series of courses looking in detail at the high performance rendering capabilities found in MODO 801. This third tutorial builds on the foundations laid out in the first and second tutorials, Rendering in MODO: Interiors and Rendering in MODO: Studio Shots. Each series includes foundational videos which are unique to that section, and when viewed together comprise a comprehensive overview of rendering inside of MODO.
cmiVFX: Houdini Fluid Dynamic Pipelines
Software used: Houdini | Duration: 01.58.26 | 2.90 GB

cmiVFX presents an all-new, production tested, training series on Houdini Fluid tools. This coursework will explore simulating oceans using ocean tools and flip fluids inside Houdini. You will get familiar with the workflow and pipeline of creating a breach effect. (Surface of the water being severed)
CGWorkshops: Destruction in Houdini
Software used: Houdini 13 | Active Weeks: 8| 21 GB

With its procedural workflow, Houdini 13 is the tool of choice for high-end studios doing complex destruction work. By the end of the course you'll understand why and be able to build your own complex RBD sims. After a brief look at all the different solvers available in Houdini 13 (including FEM) we'll focus on the bullet solver. Over the last few years the bullet solver has dominated RBD simulations for speed, stability and its ability to deal with a staggering number of objects and constraints.
The Foundry - Ocean Trawler training
Software Compatibility: MODO 801 | Project Files: Included | 5 training videos | 585 MB

This intermediate-level project-based tutorial is great for users interested in an introduction to using animated deformers, and a more advanced run-through of particle setups. In this tutorial you will learn how to create an animated procedural ocean, and then how to animate the ocean trawler boat (included asset) to automatically react to the procedural ocean swells. The creation and control of the particle simulation for the boat's wake is covered, as well, on a more advanced level. The result of the project is a render-ready animation of the ocean trawler battling through the ocean swells.
